The melody is an adaptation of a 1967 French pop song, Comme d'habitude by Claude François. Anka heard it while on holiday in Paris.
"I thought it was a shitty record, but there was something in it," he recalls. He acquired publishing rights, and it sat in a drawer in his New York apartment for two years, until Frank Sinatra called.
The song My Way perhaps best illustrated the life and the death of Francis Albert Sinatra. The song is a hymn to individuality and egocentricity and has become the chosen lament at funerals and bars across the world. But his daughter Tina Sinatra says the legendary singer came to hate the song.
"He always thought that song was self-serving and self-indulgent," she said. "He didn't like it. That song stuck and he couldn't get it off his shoe."
Поразительно, что любимый никогда не слышал американскую версию. Чистая, незамутненная душа.
